Jennifer Lopez Was ‘Done Waiting’ For Ben Affleck As She Files For Divorce

Jennifer Lopez has officially pulled the plug on her marriage to Ben Affleck, filing for divorce after months-long rumors about their marital woes.

Sources close to the singer disclosed that she decided to file for divorce because she was fed up waiting for Affleck, who’s understood to have dragged his feet on the split to “protect” her.

Jennifer Lopez is now reportedly ready to “move on” as a rumored move to New York remains on the card for her and her children, Emme and Max.

Lopez filed for divorce from the “Argo” actor at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20, following months of speculations surrounding their relationship problems.

According to People Magazine, a source revealed that her decision to end the marriage came after she reached a breaking point, feeling she had waited long enough for the relationship to work out.

The singer’s divorce filing stated the date of their separation as April 26, 2024, with the insider telling the news outlet that she decided to call it quits because she “was done waiting.”

“She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” the insider said. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”

TMZ also reported that Lopez filed for divorce “pro per,” which means she filed the lawsuit “in her own person” without the aid of an attorney.

Lopez’s filing comes two years after she and Affleck tied the knot at an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022.

However, the actress notably filed her lawsuit on August 20, which coincides with the second anniversary of their elaborate wedding ceremony, which they held in front of family and friends at Affleck’s Georgia estate.

The pair stoked rumors of marital issues all summer as they went months without being seen together.

Lopez even moved to the Hamptons for a few weeks, while Affleck stayed back in Los Angeles, where he was seen without his wedding ring on multiple occasions.

According to People, the source went further to disclose that Lopez is set to “move on” from her troubled marriage with the “Gone Girl” star.

“She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage,” the source said.

Lopez and Affleck first dated for several years in the early 2000s after meeting on the set of the “Gigli” movie. They quickly became engaged but called off their relationship in 2004 due to a reported inconvenience with the public attention on them.

They went on to marry other people, with Affleck walking down the aisle with his now ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children: Violet, Fin, and Samuel.

Lopez married Latin music superstar Marc Anthony and shares twins Emme and Max with him.

Meanwhile, as rumors of their troubled marriage reached a fever pitch, reports suggested that the embattled couple’s divorce papers had been “finalized but not yet turned in” as Affleck reportedly wanted to “protect” the “Jenny From The Block” singer from embarrassment.

The actor’s apparent unwillingness to move forward in their divorce reportedly left Lopez seething with anger and humiliation at the time, per Page Six.

“She’s furious,” a source told the news outlet. “He has humiliated her. He was the one who initiated getting back together.”

The insider told the news outlet that Affleck “humiliated her because she made a big deal that he’s the love of her life,” adding, “They just had two weddings two years ago. This is some kind of a record; they’re not young kids.”

After recently spending weeks in the Hamptons, New York, where she threw her “Bridgerton”-themed 55th birthday bash sans Affleck, a move back to NYC is not totally off the cards for Lopez.

A source previously told In Touch that the Bronx-born singer was “pushing for a full-time move to New York” before her split from Affleck and had “decided to go ahead with that after the split.”

“She’ll probably keep a place in L.A., but she needs to get away from all the noise and the scrutiny on the West Coast,” the insider shared.

Lopez reportedly believes that the Big Apple will offer her a “fresh start” for her and her teenage kids.

“There’s nothing to stop her from taking the kids and making a fresh start back in New York,” the insider added. “They’ve got plenty of schools back east, and she’s got a great social circle there.”
