Jennifer Lopez is hoping that her kids can help her maintain a relationship with her ex-husband Ben Affleck. Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck earlier this year after just over two years of marriage.
The idea that their children will make their divorce trick is certainly not a new one, as reports from over the summer indicated that Jennifer Lopez had grown quite close with Affleck’s teenage daughter Violet, whom he had with ex-wife Jennifer Garner in 2005.
A new report indicates, however, that Lopez — who reportedly refuses to “give up” on Affleck despite their divorce — is pushing for joint holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas for the sake of the children, but that Affleck “isn’t buying” it.
“It’s for that reason that Lopez practically refuses to ‘give up’ on Affleck. According to an insider, Affleck wants to distance himself from Lopez, but she doesn’t want that. She wants family time to remain an integral part of their relationship, for the sake of their children,” according to the massive Spanish outlet Marca.
“Ben has been trying to distance himself from Jen, but she just won’t let him. She’s been showing up at the same events as him and demanding they continue doing group activities with the kids. Now, she’s pushing for them to do joint celebrations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, saying it’s for the children, but Ben isn’t buying it’s just about them.
Affleck and Lopez, who first dated for a few years in the early 2000s and become arguably the highest-profile celebrity couple in the world, rekindled their romance in the early 2020s before getting married in Las Vegas in July 2022. On August 20, 2024, Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck.
The pair remain professional entwined, however, as Affleck’s production company Artists Equity has produced both of Lopez’s two upcoming films: Unstoppable, an Anthony Robles biopic releasing later this year, and a remake of Kiss of the Spider Woman (which has nothing to do with the superhero Spider-Man, by the way).
Lopez has also been in the news in recent months due to the high-profile arrest of disgraced rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, whom she dated from 1999 to 2001 and was with when the pair were detained in connection to a 1999 Times Square nightclub shooting that resulted in Diddy being charged with weapons-related charges (and ultimately found not guilty).
