Grime Super-Producer Silencer Shares Epic 17-Track Tape ‘First Treatment’

This has been a long time coming.

Silencer, aka Teddy Music, has released a new mixtape—First Treatment—collecting together 17 new tracks, including recent singles “Tell Me I’m Lying” with P Money and Novelist, “Awful” with So Large and Roachee, “Matrix Nokia” with Jme, and “Grime Ain’t Dead” with Dizzee Rascal.

As both Silencer and Teddy Music, the producer’s been a consistent force in grime since the 2000s. Even when things go a little quiet, or perhaps especially when the rest of the scene goes quiet, Silencer has always been a North Star in grime with a tireless work rate.

In a recent 1Xtra interview with Spyro (see a clip of it above), Teddy jokes about how hard it was to round up all those different MCs and get everyone turning up to the studio on time. He may have had his tongue in his cheek there, but a quick glance at the tracklist should be impressive enough.

Besides big names like Wiley and Dizzee, it’s also worth pointing out the presence of more reclusive figures like Griminal as well as welcome returns from Merky Ace and Kozzie, the latter of whom appears to have a project of his own in the pipeline.

Rounding out the huge roll call of names are Frisco, Capo Lee, Inch, The Red, Lioness, Manga Saint Hilare, Scrufizzer, Double S, K9, Hitman, C4, Macca, Jammz, Drifter, D3adly Real, Marcus Beatz, and Dapz On The Map.

There’s a lot to take in, so clear your afternoon and get to grips with it below.
