When they first got together, Alyssa worked whilst also going to university, but after the pair got engaged, she decided to stay at home, so that she could give more attention to the house.

“I didn’t even know I wanted a traditional relationship, and until I got with Aly I didn’t know how wonderful having a relationship where there are gender separations could be.

Alyssa said that she is not a feminist and thinks that feminism is “completely unnecessary.”

She does all of the cooking and cleaning in the home, whilst her husband works 10 hour shifts.

When the pair got married, Alyssa got rid of all of her credit cards and bank accounts, and is now given £80 a week by Tom.

“It’s the best job I’ve ever had”, she said.

Alyssa said that she much prefers being a homemaker than going to work as at work you are a slave to a “man that doesn’t care about you”, whereas her husband “isn’t going to fire me tomorrow.”

The couple have faced criticism from trolls over their 23 year age gap, with some suggesting that Alyssa must have “daddy issues.”

Alyssa said she has also been slammed for her views on feminism, by “women who are single over 30.”

“I just want women to know that they have other options out there”, she said.

Stay-at-Home Wife Debate: Independence is Key

Alyssa runs a successful YouTube channel, on which she encourages other women to follow a similar lifestyle to her own.

“I’m saving these women”, she said.

Tom added that he loves their dynamic as being “masculine” and providing for his wife makes him feel happy.

What is a trad wife?

A trad wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra traditional role in marriage, meaning she makes dinner and looks pretty whilst her husband goes to work.

The trend takes inspiration from the idea of a 1950s housewife.

Many ‘trad wives’ choose to dress in the style of clothing popular in this period (think floral dresses and frumpy cardigans).

Additionally, the values considered important to trad wives are similar to strict Christian values.

Trad wives believed they were not forced into this way of life, and that it was their purpose to be homemakers.

The trend, which has garnered attention on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, glamorises a time gone by with little acknowledgement of the economic challenges facing families and mothers today.

Alyssa said: “I think most modern relationships are unhappy because men act like women and women act like men and when they get together they have a really unbalanced dynamic.

“I think the whole culture we have now wants you to be fat, single, childless and depressed, and if you are counter to that, it’s going to be rough.”

Tom added: “We have a relationship with ourselves that makes us relatively happy and the we come together and have a happy marriage.”
