Phish‘s 3-day Mondegreen festival in Delaware that was cut short due to high winds and turbulent weather on Sunday. The festival culminated with the band playing a scorcher of a 1-set show on Sunday beginning at 1 PM in the afternoon which is a rare treat for Phish fans who don’t often get to see the band play during the day.

The only daytime Phish I can ever recall seeing myself was at Festival 8 when they did an acoustic set in Indio. Unfortunately, I was not able to be at the Phish Mondegreen festival in Delaware and had to sit idly by as my phone blew up with bootlegged videos from wooked-out friends at the festival sending clips from the band’s ‘Secret Set’ on Friday night.

Phish made (almost) the entire festival available for 4K streaming by purchase but they didn’t include their ‘Secret Set’ and thankfully for myself and all of the other Phish fans unable to attend Mondegreen the band just released the full Secret Set in a 51-minute 4K video on YouTube. If you’re a fan of jam bands, instrumental music, improvisation, and/or Phish you’re going to love this, or maybe you are just looking for something new!

The Phish Mondegreen festival looked incredible. I really, truly wish I could’ve been there but I was traveling the week before and traveling back-to-back weeks just wasn’t possible for me at this juncture in life.

Sunday’s 1 set show came as a bit of a shock after the band announced their 2 sets on Sunday night would be condensed into a 1 PM Sunday daytime Phish Mondegreen performance. As far as I can recall, it was the band’s longest 1-set performance and their first since they came out and played 1 set outside of Detroit at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, MI, a show I was at back in 2022, after hellacious lightning storms came through delaying the start of the concert and forcing them to play only 1 set with no breaks.

Sunday’s set put that Clarkston, Michigan show to shame. Here’s the setlist + encore:

SET 1: Party Time, Axilla -> Maze, Steam, Martian Monster, AC/DC Bag, Sigma Oasis -> Rift, Stash, Ya Mar, Timber (Jerry the Mule), Bathtub Gin > Izabella > Simple > Golden Age. ENCORE: Fuego

The art instillations at Mondegreen looked amazing, depending on your perspective. This clip went viral from the festival grounds:

For those wondering what ‘Mondegreen’ even means, it’s not just the name of the Phish festival, it is a word defined as “a misunderstood or misinterpreted word or phrase resulting from a mishearing of the lyrics of a song.” Google uses this famous example “1950s: from Lady Mondegreen, a misinterpretation of the phrase laid him on the green, from the traditional ballad ‘The Bonny Earl of Murray’.”
