Ashanti opened up about her life and career to HelloBeautiful. The singer opened up about how she used to compare herself to others. She says that this has made her learn to embrace her natural body. “I’ve always been the person to take care of myself inside and out,” she says. “I think it’s important that we show it’s okay to not be perfect, and to still embrace being natural.”
For Ashanti, embracing her natural body didn’t just boost her confidence. She says that it also helped with her overall wellness routine.”When you’re natural, you’re proud,” she says to HelloBeautiful. “You work for it. You work out, you eat right, you diet, or not even diet, you try to be healthy.”
Ashanti has had a long career. She’s had to deal with a lot of people’s opinions about her music and her life. However, she says that she is focusing on doing what she wants to do, and what her fans want to see from her. “You’re not gonna make everyone happy,” she says to HelloBeautiful. “Not everyone is gonna love you, or be into your music. I’ll just rock with a few million that do.”
Ashanti makes sure to eat healthy. In 2019, 11Alive asked her about her diet at the Bounce Trumpet Awards. Ashanti revealed that she has been on a cleanse, specifically a plant-based and veggie-heavy one. “I’m on a juice cleanse right now! It’s all plant-based, beyond burgers, asparagus, veggies, stuff like that.”
Ashanti talked about her favorite workouts to Parade.com. She says that her trainer has her doing a lot of different things. “When I’m home in NYC, I have a trainer, Raheem. We do weight training, cardio, running. I’m kind of a tomboy and I’m very competitive so I never want him to beat me. Sometimes he has me work on mobility, other times endurance, and then we’ll go for strength. I think it’s important to mix it up and hit different parts of your body. We’ll do the Stairmaster, lots of core work.”
