Over the weekend, Twiddle stopped by The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., for their annual Friendsgiving celebration, billed as Frendsgiving. The two-night stint saw debuts and sit-ins with special guests from Dogs In A pile, Neighbor–who opened on Nov. 25 & 26, respectively–along with others.
On the opening evening of the run, Twiddle kicked things off with the debut of their song “Every Last Leaf.” They continued with some fan favorites, including “Beautiful,” “Stroganoff,” and “Life Back Now.” The Vermont ensemble then welcomed their first friends of the stint onstage, with Michael Bafundo and Mike Oehmen joining on horns. They added their gilded inclinations on “Moments” and “Latin Tang” before Twiddle rounded the frame out with “Polluted Beauty” > “The Box.”
Bafundo and Oehmen returned to the stage to open the second set with “Syncopated Healing” before the next sonic dish was delivered by Dogs in A Pile’s Brian Murray and Jeremy Kaplan in the form of “Distance Makes the Heart.” Next came “Enter,” which flowed into “Orlando’s,” equipped with the evening’s brass an upholstered by a “Crosseyed and Painless” tease. Twiddle continued with “Apples” into “White Light,” into the penultimate “Mushrooms of the Sea” before Bafundo and Oehmen returned once more to close the set with “Apples Lost In The Cold.” For their encore, Twiddle returned to perform their debut of Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” with the assistance of Dogs In A Pile’s Jimmy Law, along with the horn section.
Following Neighbor’s opening set, Twiddle began the second evening of Frendsgiving by ripping into a funky tender rendition of the theme song from Friends eliciting wide and bright smiles from the crowd. They continued with cuts from their discography, moving through “The Devil,” “Dr. Remidi’s Melodium,” and “Fighting For.” Next, Twiddle performed “Every Soul,” which contained “Mamunes The Faun” and featured Scott Hannay before returning to “Every Soul” to close the set.
The second frame started with a jam of “Grampa Fox” > “The Mission.” After much applause, they grooved into “Beethoven and Greene” before hitting “Frankenfoote,” which morphed back to “Grandpa Fox.” They closed the frame by welcoming back “Hannay” on stage along with Neighbor’s Rick James for “Slippin’ In The Kitchen.”
For their encore, Twiddle debuted War’s “Why Can’t We Be Friends” and played non-stop, hitting their beloved track “When It Rains It Pours” and run-closer “Every Last Leaf II.”
