Get ready islanders, it’s about to get real sexy on Peacock. The streaming service has just ordered two new seasons of the hit reality dating and competition series Love Island. Peacock hopes the iconic series will help anchor its summer programming slate as an all-new group of sexy islanders search for “California love all summer long.”
Love Island began as a British dating game show in 2015, following a group of young “islanders” as they move into a villa together, isolated from the world and under constant video surveillance, to compete for love, money, or both. Since the first British series, a number of international versions have been spawned, including one for the U.S. that aired for three seasons on CBS, starting in 2019.
But now, it seems, the fourth and fifth seasons will be airing on Peacock, after what is said to be highly competitive bidding. The first season for Peacock will air this summer as it is simultaneously filmed in Califonia. Multiple episodes a week are said to be released on the platform for the duration of the season. The new season will feature all the sexy games and challenges that fans of the franchise love, and will even have some surprising twists along the way. Viewers will also be able to participate in the new season by having a say in who stays and who goes home, with further details on that yet to come. Additionally, cast, release schedule, and filming location details will be announced at a later date.
Love Island will be produced by ITV Entertainment, an ITV America company, and is based on a format owned by ITV Studios and Motion Content Group, and distributed by ITV Studios. About the series finding its new home on Peacock, ITV America CEO David George says:
“This really is an unprecedented deal for an unscripted brand. Peacock and NBCU are the perfect home for Love Island because of their strategy to grow the show, utilizing the greater NBCU television portfolio and other platforms to help propel the series. That dedication, coupled with a two-season commitment on Peacock, sealed the deal. We’re incredibly excited to elevate the show through a bold new collaboration.”
Susan Rovner, the Chairman Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, had this to say:
“As we continue to make Peacock a destination for must-watch original programming, partnering with a global powerhouse like ITV enables us to build on their internationally beloved formats to attract all new fans to the platform.”
