Brandy is stepping back into the world of horror for a forthcoming psychological flick from A24 titled “The Front Room.” On Aug. 25, Variety reported that the R&B icon is set to star in the horror film from directors Max and Sam Eggers, aka the Eggers brothers, whose older sibling, Robert Eggers, previously teamed up with A24 for movies like “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse.” Brandy previously starred in 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.
Not much is known about “The Front Room” yet, but Variety notes that the film “follows a young, newly pregnant couple forced to take in an ailing stepmother who has long been estranged from the family.” Brandy’s role is unknown at this time, but she will costar alongside Kathryn Hunter, Andrew Burnap, and Neal Huff.
Brandy reacted to her casting news in an Instagram post captioned, “It’s official! THE FRONT ROOM from The Eggers’ Brothers @a24 🎬 Can’t wait for y’all to see this ♥️.” The singer added: “God you’re Awesome!!!! I trust you with my entire life. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to work with this unbelievable cast, crew, and the studio everyone wants to work with and of course my Eggers fam🤞🏾♠️.”
A24 will produce “The Front Room” along with Lucan Toh, Babak Anvari, and Bryan Sonderman of Two & Two Pictures and Julia Oh and David Hinojosa of 2AM. The company will also finance and lead the movie’s theatrical rollout, though a premiere date hasn’t been set yet. Production on “The Front Room” is currently underway.
News of Brandy’s film project comes just after ABC aired its 25th anniversary special for the 1997 “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” Disney classic. The one-hour TV special featured Brandy and some of her old castmates, including Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalbán, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, and Veanne Cox.
