Academy Award nominated actor and movie star Josh Brolin is out on the promotional trail for his movie film Weapons, which is being hailed as a modern horror masterpiece. During a podcast interview, the acclaimed actor provided an exciting update on a third Sicario movie.

Sicario is one of three films that Denis Villeneuve directed from 2015 to 2017 — alongside Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 — that solidified him as one of the most exciting directors of his generation.

While a sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, was released in 2018, Villeneuve stepped away from the director’s chair and was replaced by Stefano Sollima. In addition to Brolin, Benicio del Toro, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo also reprised their roles. Emily Blunt, similar to Villeneuve, did not return.

During a recent appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Brolin was asked about a third Sicario movie and said he “just recently heard that it’s very, very real.”

As for if Denis Villeneuve would return to direct, Broln added, “I honestly don’t know that.”

“Like I mentioned at some point, I don’t know, maybe just to be contrary. I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s never going to happen.’ And then the producers showed up and Molly and, you know, ‘That’s not true!’ Which is fine. And then I just heard recently that it’s very, very real. So, cool.”

Unfortunately for fans of Sicario, Villeneuve returning for the third film feels doubtful given how busy he is. Not only is he currently in production on his third and final Dune movie, but he also recently signed on to direct the next James Bond movie, which is being written by Peaky Blinders scribe Stephen Knight.

He’s also attached to projects such as Nuclear War: A Scenario, Cleopatra, and Rendezvous with Rama.
