To create the song’s beat, Marshmello used a 12-string guitar, baritone guitar, and mandolin in the studio before incorporating his trademark up-tempo beats and kinetic synths. He played all the instruments himself, working from his own studio.

“It’s really heartfelt. This is one of the most emotional songs I’ve ever released,” Marshmello said of the track. “It’s about losing a loved one. Unfortunately, a lot of us can relate to that.” When he presented the initial concept to Jelly Roll, Marshmello said the Nashville native immediately connected with the material, which encouraged the producer to lean into its sound.

This collaboration marks Marshmello’s second foray into country music, following the history-making “Miles On It” with Kane Brown. Upon its release in 2024, it became the first song ever to debut at #1 on both the Top Dance/Electronic Songs Chart and Top Country Songs Chart simultaneously.

Since emerging in 2015, Marshmello’s collaborations with the likes of Halsey, Selena Gomez, and Khalid have generated 50 billion collective streams. So far in 2025, he’s also released the tracks “Worlds Apart” with AR/CO, “Save My Love” with Ellie Goulding & AVAION, and “Slow Motion” with Jonas Brothers.

Jelly Roll released his most recent album, Beautifully Broken, in 2024. He is a five-time Grammy nominee. He’s previously collaborated with the likes of Jessie Murph, Yelawolf and Post Malone. He and Post Malone’s song “Losers” appeared on the artist’s 2024 album F-1 Trillion, and the duo debuted the song live together last month during a Post Malone show in Seattle.
