The album is highlighted by Harriet Wheeler’s haunting vocals and David Gavurin’s artful guitar work, as the band explores themes of longing, uncertainty, and emotional vulnerability.

The re-release, which was remastered and cut at 45 RPM, includes standout singles like “Love,” “Goodbye,” “On Earth,” and the bonus track cover version of Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses.” This new edition confirms The Sundays’ influence in the worlds of dream pop and indie rock, as poignant today as it was upon its release.

Upon its release, the album was an instant success, landing in the top 20 of the UK charts and having a steady presence on the Billboard 200, too. Blind came along at an interesting time for British rock music. As Classic Pop noted in a 2025 feature on The Sundays, “When they emerged in 1988-89, indie pop and UK pop in general – was undergoing something of a spin around. Guardians of the student galaxy, The Smiths, had recently split. On the rise were a much more hedonistic indie bunch in the shape of nascent ‘Madchester’ bands Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses.”

The band was formed in 1988 and it was only a month after their first show that they earned a slot at the famed Camden venue The Falcon. Melody Maker’s Chris Roberts offered up effusive praise, saying that The Sundays were “the best thing I’ve ever heard.”

More recently, in May of 2025, the band’s 1997 album, Static & Silence, was also reissued. It was remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering and that release arrived with a printed poly-lined sleeve featuring original album lyrics. Originally released in the U.S. on September 23, 1997, Static & Silence was the group’s third album. The album featured the singles “Summertime” and “Cry,” as well as other fan favorites like “Monochrome” and “When I’m Thinking About You.”
