Deftones have shared a new song, “Milk of the Madonna.” Listen to it below.
The eruptive track seethes with a wall of down-tuned riff energy and Chino Moreno’s signature emotive wails that take on a religious fervor in the chorus: “Holy ghost/ I’m on fire/ Holy spirit/ I’m on fire.” The track roars by with only a brief reflective pause in the middle to showcase quietly strummed guitars before exploding back into waves of crushing power chords.
“Milk of the Madonna” is the second advance track from Deftones’ highly anticipated 10th studio album, Private Music, set for release on August 22nd. It follows “My Mind is a Mountain,” which the band dropped last month. It was impactful enough to be deemed our Song of the Week when it arrived.
Moreno and company are set to launch a new 14-date tour on the day Private Music is released, hitting Vancouver, British Columbia, on August 22nd, with shows scheduled through September 17th, when they wrap things up in Kansas City, Missouri. The band will follow the tour with a handful of festival appearances, including Shaky Knees in Atlanta, Louisville’s Louder Than Life, and Aftershock in Sacramento. Tickets are available here.
