BINI hopes its latest single ‘Shagidi,’ inspired by the Filipino game shagidi shapopo, will make foreign audiences ‘curious about the Philippines’
MANILA, Philippines – Fresh from its highly successful BINIverse World Tour 2025, P-pop girl group BINI continues to connect with its fans and new audiences alike with its single “Shagidi.”
BINI members Mikha, Sheena, Aiah, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Colet, and Jhoanna feel proud of their latest song, even sharing their hopes that it will draw people, especially the international community, to learn more about the Filipino culture.
“For us, it’s very important that we incorporate Filipino themes. We still find ways to bring elements that reflect who we are, kung saan kami nanggaling (where we came from),” leader Jhoanna said during an exclusive music video preview event in Quezon City on Thursday, August 7.
“With ‘Shagidi,’ we wanted to go deeper to highlight our culture because it’s very Pinoy — from the beat to the choreography to the MV (music video).”
“For local audiences, we hope it sparks pride, and for foreign audiences, we want it to be a gateway, something that makes them curious about the Philippines, like for them to Google our traditional Filipino games and dances,” Jhoanna added.

The peppy, vibrant song was a result of a collaboration between Filipina singer Angela Ken and composers Marqueze Parker, Tommy Brown, Courtlin Jabrae, and JBach during a music camp in Davao City.
They were all inspired after Ken, with Angia Laurel and Maymay Entrata, introduced the Filipino game shagidi shapopo.
True to its inspiration and inception, BINI wants to evoke a sense of childhood nostalgia and playfulness through the song. “Gusto ko kapag napanood nila ‘yung music video, ma-feel nila ‘yung childhood, ‘yung pagkabata nila, very nostalgic,” Stacey said.
(I want them to feel the nostalgia of their childhood when they watch the music video.)

For the BINI members, everything always comes back to their goal: connecting with more and more people through their music, despite differences in taste and preference.
“Outside BINI’s music, may iba pa kayong music na pinakikinggan, so ‘yung na build namin na home, mayroon tayong similarities talaga, grateful ako na nagu-unite ‘yung mga tao because of music,” Maloi said.
(Outside of BINI’s music, everyone listens to different songs, but the home we’ve built still shares real similarities. I’m grateful that music has the power to unite people.)
