One of the cardinal rules when visiting Yellowstone National Park is to exercise caution around the wild animals, particularly the bison, elk, and bears that are common.
A tourist was recently filmed ignoring those rules and taunting a Yellowstone bison, putting himself in grave danger in the process. This has prompted warnings from all over to read the signs and follow them.
Man Filmed Taunting Yellowstone Bison
Upon arrival to Yellowstone National Park there are rangers to inform you of how far to stay away from the wild animals, a minimum of 25 yards. Then there are signs throughout the National Park reminding tourists wherever they go to exercise caution.
It would be nearly impossible for a visitor to Yellowstone National Park to not be instructed at some point to keep a safe distance from the bison. Alas, there’s this guy…
The video from another park visitor, Brittney Matthews, has gone viral across social media and YouTube. One has to wonder what his plan was here, was it to jump into the river if the bison charged just to have the bison charge after him? Did he think this through at all?
The signs are everywhere!
To reiterate, Yellowstone National Park informs every visitor to keep a safe distance of 25 yards or more away from the resident bison. There are signs all over the park.
They also have this video on the Yellowstone National Park website detailing how to ensure personal safety and safety of the wild animals. Because after all, the park is looking after its animals just as much as the visitors. Rangers are stewards of the land and the creatures within it, tasked with protecting everyone, and tourists are just passersby.
Nobody listens!
Alas, there are multiple Yellowstone bison-related altercations in recent years. There are reasons a tourist might accidentally find themselves close to the wild bison, perhaps as a herd moves closer out of nowhere, but these incidents are not of that nature.
A Yellowstone tourist was gored by a bison back in June, a 30-year-old man from New Jersey. Last year, an 84-year-old woman was gored.
There have been others!
The point here though is tourists can be repeatedly told to exercise caution and still flaunt those park rules. That is how we end up with videos like the one above of the man taunting the Yellowstone bison.
