A funeral procession for the late Ozzy Osbourne will be held in his home city of Birmingham, England, on Wednesday (July 30th) ahead of a private funeral.
Fans will get to pay their final respects to the Prince of Darkness as the procession travels down Broad Street starting at 1 p.m. before stopping to pause at the Black Sabbath bench and bridge, which have been adorned by flowers, memorabilia, and tributes since Ozzy’s passing on July 22nd. The hearse will be accompanied by a live brass band performance by musicians from Bostin’ Brass.
According to The Independent, the Birmingham city council worked “at pace” with the Osbourne family, who are funding all associated costs, to coordinate traffic and bus/tram diversions on the day of the procession. In addition, those unable to attend the procession in person can tune into a livestream of the Black Sabbath bench.

Commented city mayor, councillor Zafar Iqbal, in a statement:
“Ozzy was more than a music legend – he was a son of Birmingham.
Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral.
We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.”
News of the procession and funeral comes a week after Ozzy’s death. Countless tributes have since poured in from the legendary singer’s friends and musical colleagues, with the global metal community mourning his passing.
Among the more recent tributes was a piece penned by Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, who described Ozzy as “frail” during the band’s rehearsals for the July 5th “Back to the Beginning” concert featuring his final performance as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath.
