Katy Perry knew what she was getting into when she decided to do a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ segment on her ongoing Lifetimes Tour. However, the unique wrinkle to her performances completely backfired when the fans forced her to sing two breakup songs during her split from Orlando Bloom.

The 40-year-old pop star struggled to remain composed while on stage but she is a pro’s pro and kept it together during the emotional performance.

Perry, one of the most polarizing figures in music, married Bloom in 2016. They have one child together. Although they have a plan in place as co-parents, the couple decided to call it quits on their relationship at the beginning of this year. At no point did they ever get married and multiple sources considered the breakup to be inevitable.

All good things come to an end.

This is not the first time Perry has split from a big name. She was at one point in relationships with John Mayer, Travie McCoy, Johnny Lewis, Matt Thiessen, Robert Ackroyd and Josh Groban. She was also married to Russell Brand from 2012 to 2016. Bloom came into the picture not long thereafter.

Some of those relationships were more serious than others. Marriage, of course, being the most serious.

No matter how long a relationship lasts or how serious it might’ve be, breakups suck.

Perry often channels her emotions into her music. A number of her songs reflect on a past romance.

Katy Perry fans are ruthless.

The current Katy Perry tour focuses on her most recent album, Lifetimes. She plays a few of her biggest hits alongside the new tracks but she does not turn back the clock as much as fans would prefer.

They are presented with a singular opportunity to hear some of their favorite throwbacks by request.

Perry holds a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ portion of her shows where fans get to vote for what they want to hear via QR code. The concept is as simple as it sounds.

Fans in attendance at the Lifetimes Tour stop in Inglewood, CA were asked to vote on songs from Perry’s Grammy-nominated 2010 album, Teenage Dream. They chose ‘Not Like The Movies’ and ‘The One That Got Away.’

Both songs are about past relationships. Katy Perry was not super down. She fired back at the crowd, which cheered maniacally for its selections. They made her sing breakup songs during a breakup!

To Perry’s credit, she stayed in good spirits and kept the tone light. I fully expected a meltdown that might’ve ended with a refusal to perform either song. I wouldn’t have blamed her.

Nope! Katy Perry haters can call her a diva all they want but she stepped up, fought back some tears, and sang. Respect.

At the same time, though, the crowd’s reaction to its song selection proves Perry has lost some of her touch. Her fans would rather her sing anything from the past than anything from 143.
