Amanda Shires Announces New Album Nobody’s Girl, Shares Song

Amanda Shires has announced her new album, Nobody’s Girl, is dropping September 26th via ATO Records. As a preview, the singer-songwriter has released lead single “A Way It Goes” and an accompanying music video. Stream it below.

Nobody’s Girl was produced by Lawrence Rothman (who also plays guitar on the record) and explores themes of “heartbreak and loss, resilience, self-discovery and empowerment,” according to a press release. “Nobody’s Girl is what came after the wreckage, the silence, the rebuilding,” Shires explained in a statement. “It’s about standing in the aftermath of a life you thought would last forever and realizing no one is coming to save you.”

Recorded both in Nashville and Los Angeles, the album features contributions from Fred Eltringham, Julian Dorio, and Jay Bellerose on drums, Dominic Davis, Pino Palladino, and Jimbo Hart on bass, Peter Levin on keys, Joe Kennedy on piano and guitar, and Zach Setchfield on guitar. In addition to her signature fiddle, Shires played tenor guitar and ukulele.

The opening track, “A Way It Goes,” sets the tone for the record, as Shires works through pain with devastating lyrics like, “I could tell you I felt like I was dying/ Hugged my knees to my chest crying, I couldn’t stop/ I rocked and rocked while he just stood there and watched.”

Watch the music video, directed by Taylor G. Kelly, below.

Nobody’s Girl is the follow-up to Shires’ most recent full-length, 2022’s Take It Like a Man. She also collaborated with the late Bobbie Nelson on their covers album, Loving You, in 2023.

Beginning in September, Shires will support Aly & AJ on an extensive North American tour. Get tickets here.
