BTS’ Jungkook had “overflowing” emotional reaction to KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters, the hit animated Netflix movie about a fictional idol group that fights deadly demons, has struck a chord with fans and even brought BTS star Jungkook to tears.

Set in a world where idols lead double lives, the film follows K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, global sensations who use their secret powers to protect fans from demons when they’re not busy selling out stadiums.

Since its Netflix debut on June 20, the film has become a popular hit among both anime and K-pop fans, with many praising its animation and catchy songs.

During a surprise solo livestream on the South Korean mobile app Weverse on July 14, 2025, BTS’s very own Jungkook opened up about how deeply the movie affected him.

Jungkook says KPop Demon Hunters made him cry

The stream, which marked the second anniversary of his hit single ‘Seven’, ran for two hours and included a candid moment where the popular singer reacted to KPop Demon Hunters. Now, thanks to a translation from @ryuminating, we know exactly which scenes struck a chord with Jungkook.

“I cried watching KPop Demon Hunters,” Jungkook said. “I really cried at the end. When everyone was falling for Saja Boys and [the heroine] was like, ‘I’ll create my own honmun,’ and ran into the venue by herself, I was like ‘ohhh’ and then the tears came out. It was honestly sad.”

He also recalled the point in the film that pushed him over the edge.

“I think I cried when Jinu died at the end,” he said. “Rather than crying because it’s sad, but it has to be because there’s an overflowing of emotion. Sad genres make me cry too, but when it’s really emotional… You know, don’t you? I bet you know.”

Despite being fictional, the Saja Boys have achieved real-world success. As of July 3, 2025, they officially became the highest-charting K-pop band in US Spotify history, overtaking BTS. Their breakout track ‘Your Idol’ topped the platform’s rankings through a combination of music sales and streaming activity.

Jungkook’s heartfelt reaction has since gone viral, with fans echoing his emotions and celebrating the film’s surprising depth. And with growing calls online, many are now wondering if a KPop Demon Hunters 2 could be on the horizon.
