Nintendo Switch owner goes viral for $15 bedtime gaming setup

A Nintendo Switch owner has gone viral after sharing their rudimentary but effective gaming setup to play games in bed without even lifting their head off the pillow.

Using a panel of transparent plastic and two wall brackets, they installed a shelf several inches directly above their bed.

Placing the Switch screen-down on the surface allows them to play in bed without neck craning or the (completely made-up) Dead Hand Syndrome all too familiar to handheld fans.

Revealing their ‘invention’ in a July 3 post on the Switch subreddit, the user shared images of the ingenious DIY.

Who needs sleep?

“Cost $15 bucks. Super comfy,” the user stated, prompting responses ranging from light-hearted jabs at their setup to health and safety warnings.

“I’d be worried about hitting my head when I get up for the day or to use the bathroom,” said one.

Another, stating they worked for over a decade in sleep medicine, was keen to warn against excessive screen time in bed. “I get it if you’re bedridden, sick, or injured, but please don’t do this nightly and/or for hours, people. Don’t go to bed until you’re ready to sleep.”

“I respect the dedication and creativity but this is so bad for your sleep,” another echoed.

Numerous replies offered images of infants being mesmerized by cot mobiles in the cradle, with one jesting that “we’ve come full circle.”

Even at such a relatively close distance, my main concern with such a setup would be eye strain, especially with what appears to be a vanilla Switch console.

Not that optics are going to be a problem when you’re tucked up in bed, but the thought alone of a human lying prone and gaming in bed immediately conjures some Black Mirror vibes. Hard pass from me, I’m afraid.
