Aaron Sorkin has set a sequel to his Oscar-winning 2010 film The Social Network. According to Deadline, while the movie is titled The Social Network Part II, it will focus more on the consequences of Facebook becoming the largest social media platform.
Sorkin’s script will be based on The Wall Street Journal investigation series, The Facebook Files, which exposed the company’s awareness of the negative impacts of its platform, including the spread of misinformation and its contribution to real-world harm.
He is also set to direct the film, which will be produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin, and Stuart Besser.
Based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, the original film was written by Sorkin and directed by David Fincher. It garnered eight Oscar nominations and won three awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin.
