It looks like we are getting another Stephen King adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Doug Liman will direct a Paramount Pictures feature film based on King’s bestselling novel The Stand. For those who aren’t familiar, it is a post-apocalyptic fantasy novel in the vein(ish) of The Lord of the Rings that was first published in 1978. Details about the project are still scarce, with no writers nor script attached to it at this time.
This isn’t the first adaptation for The Stand. There was a TV miniseries back in 1994 as well as 2020, with the latter on Paramount+ (then known as CBS All Access). It was a wild time to explore a tale about a deadly flu that wipes out almost all of humanity.
Recently, Doug Liman did the Road House remake for Prime Video as well as The Instigators for Apple+. While this isn’t a 100% greenlight for the project, the possibility of a feature film about The Stand with Doug Liman directing is intriguing. We will have to keep our eyes open for more news.
