Bears in Lake Tahoe walk around like they own the place. For whatever reason, there seem to be more bear sightings/encouters in the California/Nevada town than anywhere else in the U.S. other than maybe Gatlinburg, Tennessee. That’s anecdotal, of course, but this latest run-in in the Tahoe Keys, a private community in South Lake Tahoe only strengthens my belief.
A mama bear and her cub broke into a home in the Tahoe Keys and raided the fridge almost as if they had just read the fairy tale story of the ‘3 Bears’ and wanted to flip the script and see how life was inside people’s homes.
Security camera footage captured the bears kick open the front door and head straight for the refrigerator in the kitchen. Mama bear didn’t seem to have any difficulty at all opening the fridge door and getting to the food. Watching this footage, it’s easy to question if this is the first time these bears have helped themselves to fridge food:
What did we do before Ring doorbell cameras became so prevalent? Truly. Did we just tell people that bears broke into our homes and raided the fridge and expect them to believe us? Or that alligators had rang the doorbell trying to break in during the middle of the night?
I haven’t spent much time in Lake Tahoe. I did make it to a Lake Tahoe Lakers minor league hockey game though, the team that’s at least partially owned (or was) by Tim Tebow. And I feel like they should really embrace the black bear as their logo given all of the black bear run-ins around the area.
Case in point, this article titled ‘Bear Attacks Rudolph The Reindeer Inflatable Christmas Decoration‘ that I wrote a few years back. Or this one about a bear just walking into a cookie shop like it owns the place.
