OK Cool embrace joyful nostalgia on ‘Safety Car’

Rising indie-rock duo OK Cool (Bridget Stiebris and Haley Blomquist Waller) have unveiled their latest single ‘Safety Car,’ a charming and heartfelt cut from their upcoming debut album Chit Chat, out August 1st, 2025.
With glittering synth textures layered over one of their most undeniably catchy choruses yet, ‘Safety Car’ shows OK Cool at their most accessible and emotionally direct. The song captures the comfort of shared routines and the quiet peace of togetherness, written by Blomquist Waller with her husband in mind as they began planning their wedding.
Blomquist Waller explains:
“There are references in the lyrics to things we do together that I know, in the future, I will look back on as peaceful vignettes. It’s about feeling nostalgic and grateful for things as they’re happening.”
The video, a whimsical blend of cardboard sets, projection screens, and offbeat charm, mirrors the song’s balance between polish and homemade warmth.
With ‘Safety Car’:
“…I set out to create an intersection of pro and lo-fi… really polished but still DIY and real… Shoutout to H+B for dancing wholeheartedly in a very warm two-headed sweater.”
In support of Chit Chat, OK Cool will embark on a string of headlining tour dates this summer. The mini-tour includes stops in Cleveland, Philadelphia, and a highlight performance at NYC’s Baker Falls on August 21st.
