After nearly two decades without a full album of original material, The Lemonheads, led by Evan Dando, have returned with ‘In The Margin,’ a hard-hitting new single that heralds the forthcoming album Love Chant, out October 24 via Fire Records.

‘In The Margin’ finds Dando melancholic, melodic, and emotionally raw. The track opens with a sharp guitar riff and quickly settles into a deceptively breezy groove, masking the emotional weight beneath its pop-friendly veneer. It’s a classic Lemonheads move—lacing heartbreak and wit inside catchy, disarming melodies. The single is accompanied by a lyric video and is available to stream everywhere.

Dando explains:

“I wanted to have a riffy song, so I wrote riffs all over it. The body of the song was Marciana’s (Marciana Jones). It’s like a full-on 8th-grade girl revenge song: ‘Stupidly I left the escape plans out so they could find my way.’”

‘In The Margin’ is the latest preview from Love Chant. The new album features an impressive lineup of collaborators and guests including J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Juliana Hatfield, John Felice (The Real Kids), John Strohm, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond), Adam Green (The Moldy Peaches), and more. Recorded in São Paulo with producer Apollo Nove, Love Chant promises a dynamic blend of psych-folk, country detours, and scrappy guitar-forward rock—everything that has made The Lemonheads enduring icons.

With ‘In The Margin,’ The Lemonheads remind us why they’ve remained a vital force across generations. It’s a welcome—and long overdue—return from a band that continues to find beauty in the margins.
