Louisville-based trio Wombo has unveiled their latest single and video, ‘Neon Bog,’ the centerpiece of their upcoming album Danger in Fives, due out August 8 via Fire Talk Records.
‘Neon Bog’ is a murky, off-kilter slice of dreamlike indie rock, anchored by the clanging repetition of a cowbell and washed in haunting, distorted vocals. The track emerged from a creative period of intense experimentation, with guitarist Cameron Lowe contributing more than 30 demos that were later refined with bassist/vocalist Sydney Chadwick and drummer Joel Taylor.
The single’s accompanying video, directed by Lowe, matches the track’s strangeness with a surreal visual narrative. Constructed using full-sized miniature sets and practical effects inspired by Michel Gondry, the video captures an abstract tale of loss, memory, and the paranormal—with a couple haunted by the ghost of their cat. The unconventional production choices underline Wombo’s creative fearlessness and commitment to hand-crafted, immersive art.
Of “Neon Bog,” Chadwick adds:
“‘Neon Bog’ is a song about a simple time I had with a friend and reflecting back on that and how relationships change over time. And how things get murky kind of like how the song feels which inspired the lyrics for me.”
‘Neon Bog’ is available now on all streaming platforms. Danger in Fives arrives August 8 via Fire Talk Records and is available for pre-order now. Tickets for all upcoming Wombo tour dates are on sale now.
