Ed Sheeran Recruits Dave Grohl and John Mayer for "Drive": Stream

Ed Sheeran is back with “Drive” a new rock song featuring Dave Grohl on drums and John Mayer on guitar.

The new song is included on the soundtrack for F1the new Formula 1 racing film starring Brad Pitt that arrives in theaters next Friday, June 27th. Atop a bluesy, ’70s-inspired riff, Sheeran offers a handful of racing and car-centric lyrics in the raspiest, grittiest vocal tone he can muster. “Ha-la-lay-la/ We can ride/ Four wheels you and I/ Gotta get out of here,” he sings in the anthemic chorus, later unleashing a soulful, escalating command after each refrain: “Petal down and driiiiiiiiive.”

“Drive” was produced by Blake Slatkin as well as Mayer. In addition to Mayer and Grohl playing on the track, Sheeran recruited fellow Foo Fighters member Rami Jaffee on keys and Pino Palladino on bass. Sheeran originally previewed the song via his Instagram Story last month, advertising it as part of the F1 movie soundtrack; “Drive,” however, will not appear on Sheeran’s forthcoming new album Play, which arrives on September 12th and features previous singles “Azizam,” “Sapphire,” and “Old Phone.”
