According to local media, a recent video shows what some believe to be Argentina’s version of Bigfoot, the Ucumar, running across a field. The video appears to show a large figure crossing a field in the province of Salta.
One media outlet, Elesquiu.com, reports that the video was shared on the “Ucumar Metán Salta” website. The site said that the person or persons who recorded the video requested that both the location of the sighting and their identities be kept confidential.
The Bigfoot-like figure in the video can be seen moving quickly around 300 feet or so away from the person doing the filming. As the creature is being recorded, a person can be heard asking, “What’s that? I don’t know if it’s a person or what?”
Elesquiu.com reports, “The figure displays humanoid characteristics and rapid movement. In northwestern Argentina, it is known as Ucumar, Ucumari, or ‘Bear Man.’ Folk tradition attributes to it behaviors such as kidnapping women or children, responding to its name with a deceptive human voice, and frightening others with an intense red gaze.”
Earlier this year, another video from Argentina went viral that claimed to have recorded the howl of the Ucumar. The person who shot that video attempted to locate the source of the creature, but was unable to do so.
According to the website Cryptid Wiki, “In 1956, geologist Audio L. Pich found seventeen inch long human-like footprints on the Argentina side of the Andes Mountains at a height of over sixteen thousand feet. The following year similar tracks were discovered in the province of La Salta, Argentina. Not long after, residents of Tolor Grande informed newspaper reporters of a nightly chorus of what they described as eerie calls emanating from the near by Curu-Curu Mountains. The cries, which were attributed by the locals to a creature known as the Ukumar-zupai, frightened the community for some time, and according to anthropologist Pablo Latapi Ortega, traditions of these giant ape men continue to this very day in Argentina.”
Throughout the world there have been an untold number of sightings in dozens of countries of a similar creature that has been given at least 58 different names, including Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti, Yowie, Skunk Ape, Grassman, Momo, Orang Pendek, Ebu gogo, Monkey Man, and Wendigo.
