General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal the real reason Jonathan Jackson chose to exit his role as Lucky Spencer.
General Hospital fans were completely thrown for a loop to find out that Jonathan Jackson is slated to leave the role of Lucky Spencer on the ABC soap.
After all, he had a splashing return last August 2024 when he came back to Port Charles after being away for almost a decade.
The idea of Lucky leaving the little town was hinted at on the Thursday, June 5 episode of GH, when he proposed to Elizabeth “Liz” Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), only for her to turn him down.
This sent fans into a frenzy online, and his official departure was confirmed later on that day.
The actor recently caught up with TV Insider and offered an explanation as to why he is exiting the daytime less than a year after his major return.
First off, he noted that it wasn’t his intention to return, only to leave the show a mere nine months later, but as much as he tried to make things work, he just could.
That’s because Jackson resides in Nashville, Tennessee, and the ABC studio where General Hospital is filmed is in Los Angeles, California.
Simply put, the commute was taking its toll on him and his personal life, as a husband and a dad of three.
Going back and forth wasn’t working for him and his family.
Jonathan tells TV Insider that, “There were moments where I thought, ‘I think I can find this balance with the family and time back and forth’.”
He went on to say, “… then you just have to pray about it and try to do what you feel is right. We gave it our best shot, but we weren’t able to keep it going.”
While fans are sad to see him go, it’s hard not to address the elephant in the room: the fact that, while Lucky had an explosive return, he didn’t have much of a storyline after he came back to town.
Regardless, here’s hoping that Lucky can continue popping in now and again on the soap, when his schedule permits.
It was great seeing the Spencer clan back together, as Laura Collins’ (Genie Francis) heart was full with both Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) and Lucky in PC.
As the exit doesn’t seem to be with anything related to the show, maybe Lucky will return now and again for some special moments that occur in town.
General Hospital spoilers hint that there will be some emotional moments during the week of June 9-13 as Lucky once again says goodbye to his sister, his mom, the love of his life, and his son, Aiden Spencer (Colin Cassidy).
