Alex G Announces New Album Headlights, Shares “Afterlife”

Alex G is back to announce a new album, Headlights, out July 18th via RCA Records. He’s also revealed the new song “Afterlife” as the album’s first preview.

Headlights serves as Alex G’s first album since his acclaimed 2022 effort God Save the Animals and a busy three years touring, during which he signed to RCA Records, opened for Foo Fighters, crafted the scores for the films We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, and contributed to Halsey’s latest album The Great Impersonator.

Now, with his 10th studio album Headlights, Alex G reprises his signature poignant, hybrid indie rock sound, evidenced by lead single “Afterlife.” With a chipper mandolin leading the way, Alex G blends reflections on his past with the idea of passing on into a different, new life: “When the light came/ Big and bright/ I began another life,” he sings in the chorus, scraping the top of his range on “big and bright.” The track arrives with a music video directed by Charlotte Rutherford and featuring a young boy being pulled around a Southern town by a microphone.
