A Virginia family is crediting Metallica with saving their lives after a truck crashed into their home on May 6th — a day before they were set to attend the band’s concert at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
David and Kristin McKee and their 14-year-old daughter Madeleine — who became a Metallica superfan after their music played a big part in Stranger Things — went to bed earlier than usual on the night of the 6th so they would be well-rested for the Metallica gig the next day. Usually, the family stays up late watching TV in the living room — the part of the house the pickup truck crashed into just hours after they went to bed.
Kristin recalled to local TV station WDBJ7: “[I asked David,] ‘Do you wanna sit up?’ And he was like, ‘Nah, I think I just wanna go on to bed.’ I said, ‘I’ll go on to bed, too.’ Then, just a few hours later, we heard a loud explosion, glass shattered. It was just madness from that point on.”

She continued, “We were so fortunate that, that night, my daughter could have walked down that hallway and found us in the rubble. I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us.”
The McKees’ home is currently undergoing repairs and should be back to normal in six months, per the TV report. Meanwhile, their near-miss due to Metallica is particularly coincidental considering the band just announced a new documentary titled Metallica Saved My Life, which focuses on the thrash legend’s devout worldwide fanbase.
It’s too late to cut the McKees into the doc, as its already screening in cities along Metallica’s “M72” tour. , but they may have to be worked into the home release. The concert dates run through the end of June, and you can get tickets here.
