Twenty One Pilots have spoken about the newly released tribute album ‘Blurryface Reborn’ and inspiring other artists in their latest interview with Rock Sound.
We sat down with Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun to reflect on their career and legacy as their landmark LP ‘Blurryface’ turned 10 years old and discussed the special tribute which features artists influenced by the band including NOAHFINNCE, Arrows In Action, YONAKA, James Marriott and Bears In Trees.
Josh Dun said “You’ve got to be such an established band and be around for a long time, making an impact, to have a tribute album done. I don’t think it ever crossed either of our minds that we would ever be in that place or that point in our career.”
“As we continue to do this thing, we realize how hard it is”, Tyler adds. “So anytime that our peers, other artists, or other bands co-sign something that we’ve done, it means that much more to us the longer we do this. You would think it’d be the opposite, that it’s not nearly as impactful for another artist or band to say they love something that you guys did, but it actually puts things in perspective. As a band that’s been doing this now for a little bit, we were initially playing to people that hadn’t quite started their journey pursuing music yet. Then they start and to see them using our songs or our show as a little bit of inspiration, that is one of the things that we didn’t really anticipate. It wasn’t part of the reason why we wanted to get into this, but it’s part of the reason why we keep going. Because there’s another generation of people coming up that you can actually impact who are then going to go out and do it their way, and maybe take something small from the way that we did it.”
He concludes, “Every night, there are people that are potentially impacted by our show who then go out and do their own thing. That’s a cool thing to see happening.”
