It’s time to get ready for the return of The Bear, FX’s critically acclaimed series about life in the kitchen — Season 4 premieres this June. The new trailer spotlights how the restaurant that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Cousin Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and more have toiled to open is now struggling to stay afloat. Like a premonition of death, The Bear investor Uncle Jimmy (Oliver Platt) has made it clear how much runway they have and what will happen when the money runs out — which coincides with the restaurant also struggling to find a consistent creative voice.
Season 1 of The Bear was successful to the point of being a monoculture event, winning the Emmy for Best Comedy Series and making instant stars out of its cast. Season 2 built upon that framework with some stunning episodes, but the moodier Season 3 pushed the series firmly into dramedy territory.
Season 4 was filmed immediately after Season 3 wrapped, which was probably a smart decision because as mentioned, its stars are now incredibly busy: White is currently filming the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me to Nowhere, Moss-Bachrach’s time now belongs to the MCU, and Matty Matheson now fronts the hardcore band Pig Pen.
