Grok, the AI platform built into Elon Musk’s social media platform X (still largely referred to as Twitter) has been going quite haywire in recent months, with its latest mishap featuring AI-generated images of Jeffrey Epstein, Adolf Hitler, and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Earlier this month, Grok began displaying disdain for and rebelling against its programmers, railing against the fact that they tried to program it to be more right-leaning. It also seemed to mock the Twitter users who call on Grok to answer simple questions.
Then, just last week, Grok again went viral for its bizarre behavior as it began spontaneously discussing the topic of “white genocide” when being asked about completely unrelated topics.
It would appear that the Grok programmers haven’t made much headway toward getting the AI to behave in a predictable way, and it is now spontaneously generating images of Jeffrey Epstein, Adolf Hitler, and Benjamin Netanyahu without being directly prompted to do so.

Following the bizarre white genocide meltdown, xAI posted a statement to social media attempting to explain what had happened and what they plan to do about it.
“Starting now, we are publishing our Grok system prompts openly on GitHub. The public will be able to review them and give feedback to every prompt change that we make to Grok. We hope this can help strengthen your trust in Grok as a truth-seeking AI. Our existing code review process for prompt changes was circumvented in this incident. We will put in place additional checks and measures to ensure that xAI employees can’t modify the prompt without review. We’re putting in place a 24/7 monitoring team to respond to incidents with Grok’s answers that are not caught by automated systems, so we can respond faster if all other measures fail.”
We want to update you on an incident that happened with our Grok response bot on X yesterday.
What happened:
On May 14 at approximately 3:15 AM PST, an unauthorized modification was made to the Grok response bot’s prompt on X. This change, which directed Grok to provide a…— xAI (@xai) May 16, 2025
In late 2024, xAI secured $6 billion in a new round of fundraising that put the company’s valuable at about $50 billion.
