The Weeknd Surprises College Grads with Impromptu Fordham Performance

Days after kicking off the final leg of his “After Hours Til Dawn” tour, The Weeknd — aka Abel Tesfaye — stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night for an extended appearance that included a big surprise for some college graduates.

Earlier on Thursday, Tesfaye and Fallon crashed a Fordham University graduation celebration at the school’s Lincoln Center campus, where The Weeknd surprised students with impromptu performances of “Blinding Lights” and “I Can’t Feel My Face.” The scene was captured by The Tonight Show cameras and shown during Thursday night’s episode.

Those weren’t The Weeknd’s only performances of the day, however, as he also took the stage at 30 Rock to sing “Baptized In Fear” and “Open Hearts” from his latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Additionally, Tesfaye sat down with Fallon for what was touted as his first-ever late-night television interview, discussing the album, its companion film, and his unabashed love for Tom Cruise.

The Weeknd’s appearance follows the January release of Hurry Up Tomorrow, the third installment in a trilogy of albums that began with 2020’s After Hours and marks Tesfaye’s final release under his “Weeknd” persona before he potentially shifts to releasing music under his birth name. The companion film is in theaters this weekend.

The Weeknd’s “After Hours Til Dawn” tour will next make stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Vancouver, Toronto, Miami, and more cities before wrapping in San Antonio, Texas in September (get tickets here).
