General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) recently spilled on the recast that had to happen, so let’s talk about what it means for Michael Corinthos’ (last played by Chad Duell) future.
In a new interview with SOD, Wright addressed a forced recast that went down earlier this year.
Charles Mesure (ex-Jack Brennan) decided to leave GH, so that put the show in a bit of a bind and required a fast replacement.
Of course, Chris McKenna quickly stepped up to the plate and took over the role of Jack Brennan.
Due to how everything played out, Wright insisted she wasn’t concerned about the chemistry not working anymore – mostly because there was no other option!
“There was no choice but to recast; with the amount of story that was already written and in place, it wasn’t able to be rewritten or adjusted, even, at that point because of how committed we were to the story, and that it happened to involve [other characters], like Eden’s [McCoy, Josslyn],” Wright said.
Wright was satisfied with the show’s recast pick and gave a glowing review of McKenna’s time in the role so far.
It’s clear that McKenna and Wright get along behind the scenes, so it all worked out well.
However, this might be a good time to consider the similarities between the Brennan situation and the one GH is facing when it comes to Michael.
Duell’s departure didn’t require a speedy replacement, but the show’s still left with a Michael-shaped hole that can only be filled by this particular character.
Although Michael was given a brief exit arc involving serious burns and a recovery at a clinic in Baden-Baden, it was a temporary solution.
There’s a boatload of Michael-related drama waiting for him back home – and it can’t truly progress the way it should until he returns.
The writers crafted a storyline with Michael at the center of it when they had Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) fall for his manipulative creep of an uncle, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison).
Now there’s custody chaos threatening to explode, so Michael needs to come back for that.
Plus, Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) is pregnant with Michael’s baby while Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) is pretending to be the bio dad.
It’d be cruel to have Sasha lose yet another baby, so the show’s locked into this storyline – and there’s only one way forward!
Michael’s homecoming has to happen, so this seems like another recast dilemma that the show had no choice but to handle.
Since Chad Duell chose to leave and the news of the show’s Michael recasting process has leaked, it’s just a matter of time until a brand-new Michael hits Port Charles.
General Hospital spoilers say some stunning Michael moments are still to come, so stay tuned for updates on his upcoming PC return.
