Brooklyn-based multimedia artist Swordes has released her latest single, ‘Boyfriend La La La,’ out today via Music Website.
Marking the first taste of her upcoming debut album due later this year, ‘Boyfriend La La La’ is a chaotic and addictive mix of baby talk, club energy, and surrealist performance art. Swordes leans fully into the persona of a manic pixie dream girl turned crazy girlfriend, chanting obsessive mantras over cartoonish 808s and warped basslines. The chorus, like a cursed nursery rhyme, toes the line between pop fantasy and manic delusion, capturing Swordes’ signature blend of theatricality and sonic experimentation.
She says in character:
“I love being a crazy girlfriend. There’s nothing wrong with that. Here’s a quote from my boyfriend: ‘I’m her muse. Who wouldn’t be crazy about me?’”
Known for her hardware-only, computer-free live sets, Swordes emerged from Brooklyn’s underground scene in 2021 with a singular sound shaped by experimental electronic, alt-pop, and glitchy club aesthetics. Her upcoming debut album promises a cinematic mix of late-’90s dance influences and raw pop vocals—entirely written, produced, and mixed by Swordes herself.
‘Boyfriend La La La’ is out now.
