Twitch has introduced a new feature that makes channel subscriptions much cheaper — but only if certain conditions are met.
On Twitch, viewers can support their favorite streamers in a myriad of ways, including sending cheers, donating bits (the platform’s currency) or purchasing a recurring subscription to their channel.
There are three different levels of subscriptions, called ‘tiers,’ with benefits such as access to special emotes, subscriber badges, ad-free viewing, and more.
At minimum, viewers can spend $4.99 per month on a Tier 1 sub, $9.99 on a Tier 2 sub and $24.99 on a Tier 3 subscription… but now, these payments have a chance at being cheaper.
Twitch viewers can gift other users subscriptions to their favorite streamers’ channels – and now, Hype Trains can make them cheaper.
Treasure Trains make certain Twitch subs cheaper
On May 8, 2025, Twitch introduced a new feature called ‘Treasure Trains,’ which is essentially a different kind of ‘Hype Train.’ Hype Trains are special events on Twitch where fans gift subscriptions to other viewers or cheer with Bits to increase a ‘hype train’ meter.
As this meter grows, viewers get emote rewards — and now, they can earn cheaper subscriptions, too.
As explained by Twitch in a May 8 blog post, Treasure Trains activate when a Hype Train reaches Level 5. Once this level is achieved, viewers get a 35% discount on purchases of five or more Tier 1 single-month gift subscriptions.
This discount is only available for the duration when the chat banner announces the Treasure Train is open and cannot be combined with other discounts or offers on Twitch.
The discounts are split with the streamers, but broadcasters can opt out of Treasure Trains if they so choose, which will prevent them from popping up in their broadcasts during Hype Trains.
This is the latest big change Twitch has rolled out after pushing back the deadline for streamers to download their VODs after capping the limit to 100 hours per channel. Now, broadcasters have until May 19th to save their favorite VODs and highlights… although the issue is still rubbing streamers the wrong way.
