3 Doors Down has been forced to cancel their latest tour after the band’s lead singer and drummer, Brad Arnold, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
Arnold, 46, announced the shocking news on Wednesday, May 7, via social media.
”Hey everybody, it’s Brad from 3 Doors Down,” the “Kryptonite” singer began his Instagram video. “I hope you’re having a great day today. I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today.”
Arnold learned he was sick with clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer, “a couple of weeks ago” after falling ill and going to the hospital. It was then that doctors discovered the cancer was Stage 4 and had already spread to his lungs.
“So I’d been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung,” he explained. “And it’s Stage 4, and that’s not real good.”
Despite the startling news, the “Let Me Go” vocalist said he has “no fear” and is “not scared” of the devastating diagnosis, “at all.”
“But you know what?” Arnold said. “We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.”
3 Doors Down was ultimately forced to cancel their upcoming tour, which was set to kick off in Daytona Beach, Fla., on May 15, in light of Arnold’s Stage 4 kidney cancer diagnosis.
“But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer,” he announced. “And we’re sorry for that. And I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get. And I think it is time for me to maybe go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit.”
Arnold mentioned 3 Doors Down’s hit 2008 song again in the caption of his moving Instagram video.
“Thank you for all the memories so far. Now, I believe ‘It’s Not My Time’ is really my song,” he wrote. “This’ll be a battle so we need our prayers warriors! Thank y’all for being the best fans in the world. We love y’all!”
Every show that was originally scheduled for 3 Doors Down’s upcoming tour has since been removed from the band’s website.
Instead, the group added a “Message From Brad” that takes fans to the lead singer’s video.
3 Doors Down first gained widespread fame in 2000 with the release of their hit single, “Kryptonite.”
The beloved rock band formed in Escatawpa, Miss., in 1996 and originally consisted of Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts, and bassist Todd Harrell. Guitarist Chris Henderson joined the group in 1998.
