While Los Angeles continues to rebuild from the wildfires that scorched the city earlier this year, longtime Angeleno Ty Segall has announced L.A. RECOVERS, a new benefit compilation with contributions from his tight-knit circle of peers and collaborators.
The project features 13 unreleased recordings from alternative, garage, psychedelic, experimental, noise, punk and post-rock powerhouses, all of whom have personal connections to the city. Beyond Segall, that stacked roster includes No Age, White Fence, Redd Kross, The Intelligence, Mikal Cronin, Meatbodies, Shannon & The Clams, Jack Name, Charles Moothart, Emmett Kelly, Shannon Lay and King Tuff. All of those acts cover and are covered by another contributor, and the artist worked out who’d play who by drawing names from a hat.
“The idea of doing a comp turned into friends covering each other and we thought that would be a perfect thing to do for some L.A. fire relief charity fundraising,” Segall shared. “One thing was important – that everyone involved needed to have spent creative time living in L.A. It’s been very fun for everyone involved to cover each other’s music!”
L.A. RECOVERS is published by Ty and Denée Segall’s DIY label Classic Master Sound Recordings. It will be available exclusively through a single-pressing vinyl LP from GoodNeighbor, and all proceeds will go to One Voice LA – Fire Relief Fund and California Black Freedom Fund – Black LA Relief & Recovery Fund. Pre-order the exclusive album here and read on for the full tracklist.
Segall is currently gearing up to release Possession, his pathbreaking 16th studio album that shifts his focus to vivid narratives about America, in all its insanity. He’ll take that material to the stage after his current solo run with an expansive full band tour, then join Primus to support the “Onward & Upward” tour in July.
