Nathan Fielder’s unique brand of comedy reached new heights in the third episode of the second season of his HBO series The Rehearsal, as the singular performance art comedian role-played as a baby-version of the famed pilot Chesley Burnett “Sully” Sullenberger.
In the second season of The Rehearsal, Nathan Fielder is exploring what he believes is a severely overlooked element of aviation accidents: communication between the Captain and First Officer in the cockpit.
Without having to recap the entire events of the second season of The Rehearsal so far, the long-and-short is this: to better understand how to be a better pilot, Fielder tries to understand Sully by reading his biography.
Deciding simply reading his life story isn’t enough, Fielder than recreated the events of Sully’s life and role-played as him: beginning with infancy and moving all the way through adulthood.
The portion of Fielder playing a baby was a particularly shocking visual as — not only does he look absurd in the bald cap and adult diaper — he had a set built in order to create a visual illusion that made him look baby-sized.
He also included a moment of him breastfeeding from an utterly gigantic puppet of a woman, which looked to be about 20 feet tall.

“Nathan Fielder might need to be institutionalized,” one tweet summarized.

The first three episodes of The Rehearsal season two are now streaming on MAX, with the remaining three episodes in the season releasing on May 11, May 18, and May 25.
