Inspiration to direct ‘Words of War’
On his inspiration to direct this movie, he said, “I like true stories, and I love shining a light on stories that people are unaware of. Anna’s story was one that needed to be told and brought to a wider audience. That’s what attracted me to this project.”
Working with Jason Isaacs and Maxine Peake
On working with Jason Isaacs and Maxine Peake, he expressed, “They were great! It was a thrill to work with Jason Isaacs, Maxine Peake, Ciarán Hinds, and the rest of the cast.”
“All of our cast were some of the most brilliant ensembles I’ve ever worked with. We were so lucky to have so many A-listers in this film. Every single person was brilliant,” he acknowledged.

Hardest part of making this movie
Regarding the hardest part of the filmmaking process for “Words of War,” he shared, “It’s an independent film so sometimes the financing and putting it together was tough. We had to keep the money going.”
“Also, we shot it in the middle of winter, so the weather was a bit of a challenge,” he added.
The digital age
On being a filmmaker and director in the digital age, now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent, Strong said, “I still think there is a place for a film like this, and I still think there is a place for all of these types of media, and they are all different forms of artistic creativity, so it’s exciting.”
Success
Regarding his definition of the word success, Strong said, “I am very privileged to do what I do. I am very appreciative and grateful for all the things in my life. To be a storyteller like this is a great honor that I don’t take lightly.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Words of War’ film
For fans and viewers, he remarked about the movie, “The freedom of the press, and journalists are really important. We value them and they should be protected.”
