We’re In For Another Year ‘We Got This Before GTA 6’ Memes

Death, taxes, and people commenting ‘we got this before GTA 6‘ anytime something monumental happens on the Internet. These are all certainties in life, and the ‘we got this before GTA VI‘ memes are going to continue for at least another year.

Today, Rockstar Games announced they are delaying the release of Grand Theft Auto VI until May 26, 2026. This announcement naturally led to a slew of ‘we’ll get X before GTA 6‘ memes after Rockstar’s announcement.

On their website, Rockstar Games shared the following statement:

Rockstar was very scant on details for why they announced this delay. Their statement only says they are working “to finish the game” and that they “need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.” But they didn’t outright say what needs to be finished, the scope and scale of that project, and why they chose to release the GTA 6 delay statement now.

Over on X (née Twitter), the popular account @DiscussingFilm noted several things we will now be getting before we get Grand Theft Auto 6, including but not limited to Scream 7, Ghost of Yōtei, Squid Game S3, Avatar: Fire & Ash, Stranger Things S5, Avengers: Doomsday, The Mandalorian & Grogu, The Super Mario Bros Movie 2.

The fact that we are getting a third Avatar film and the final season of Stranger Things, two projects that feel like they have been in the works for a decade, is surreal.

Some on X were quick to point, like I have here, that we will now get another year of the ‘Before GTA 6′ memes:

The Empire State Building noted that we got a dragon in Midtown before Grand Theft Auto VI came out:

The list goes on and on. Now, they’ll continue for a year.
