The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that fans are asking an important question following some huge cast-related news: Will Hunter King return and replace Allison Lanier as Summer Newman?
Now that Lanier has announced her departure from the show, that opens the door to a potential Summer swap.
What happens after Lanier makes her final appearance on May 2?
According to SOD’s sources, Y&R doesn’t have immediate recast plans when it comes to the role of Summer.
That means Summer won’t be on-screen for a while, but things could certainly change somewhere down the line.
Summer is a pretty important character who’s arguably the true love of Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) life – even if he isn’t willing to admit that to himself right now!
Kyle is head over heels for Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) at this point, but there’s no guarantee they have a romance that’s meant to last.
No one can rule out the idea of Summer and Kyle reuniting in the future.
That’s especially true if Y&R can convince King to reprise the part she played on and off from 2012 to 2022.
Although Allison Lanier made the role her own and earned plenty of fans in the process, some viewers still miss Hunter King and would love to see her version of Summer return.
The show has a golden opportunity to feature a familiar face and make it easier to accept a Summer recast since we’ve seen King before.
King could reclaim the part and help Summer kick off a new chapter when the time comes.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the powers that be at least tried to get King back on the CBS soap.
It’d be a smart move and could really shake up the canvas sooner or later.
Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) deserve to have their daughter around, so let’s hope Summer will return in some form!
