After teaming up for the new seven-minute collaborative song “Track 1” last week, Flume and JPEGMAFIA have confirmed a new EP, We Live in a Society, out this Friday, May 2nd.
The EP comprises of four songs: the aforementioned “Track 1,” plus “AI Girlfriend,” “The Ocean Is Fake,” and “Is It Real” featuring the R&B singer Ravyn Lenae. The new project serves as the latest collaboration between JPEGMAFIA and Flume, as the duo originally collaborated on “How To Build A Relationship” from Flume’s 2019 release Hi This Is Flume and “New Black History” from JPEG’s 2024 album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU.
“Track 1,” the first offering from the EP, arrived on Friday and features a slightly comedic vibe; Flume cycles through different versions of the same beat while Peggy taunts him about the quality of each, playfully insulting him and at one point threatening, “I’m gonna have to call Fred Again…” Eventually, Flume constructs a beat worthy of JPEGMAFIA’s respect, and the song trails off with the fully-formed groove. The new EP serves as Flume’s first release since his pair of 2023 mixtapes: Things Don’t Always Go the Way You Plan and Arrived Anxious, Left Bored. Meanwhile, we named JPEGMAFIA’s I LAY MY LIFE DOWN FOR YOU as one of our favorite albums of August 2024.
