Stereolab Release New Song “Melodie is a Wound”

Stereolab have released “Melodie is a Wound,” the second single from their upcoming album Instant Holograms on Metal Film. Like previous announcements from the band, “Melodie is a Wound” is accompanied by a puzzle, this time a crossword made by The Guardian’s Alan Connor. Listen to the song and solve the puzzle below.

“Melodie is a Wound” comes in two forms, one clocking in at nearly eight minutes and a four-and-a-half-minute radio edit. The full version chugs along with tickling drum fills from Alex Ramsay, before a fake-out ending allows the song to morph into a sunny, acoustic instrumental, and later as a psychedelic track complete with staticky synths. Lætitia Sadier’s lyrics are politically charged, seemingly critiquing the lack of freedom of the press: “Blown, the freedom of conscience/Is there some form of justice possible or/So long, public’s right to know the truth/Gagged, muzzled by the powerful,” she sings.
