Katy Perry embraced her controversial Blue Origin space flight on the first night of her Lifetimes Tour in Mexico City on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old “Roar singer, who was dressed in an outer space-themed silver metal bodysuit for part of her show, recreated space choreography by flying in the air at points at the CDMX Arena.
Perry also brought out two men wearing blue NASA jumpsuits and took a selfie with them on stage.
The pop star seemingly called out critics of her space flight by asking the audience, “‘Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”, according to the Daily Mail.
Perry’s Lifetimes Tour will include over 80 shows and visit dozens of countries. The final concert will take place Dec. 7 in Abu Dhabi.
Before the Mexico City show, Perry announced on Instagram that two concerts originally scheduled for next week in Guadalajara, Mexico were canceled due to issues with the venue.
“Sadly, I learned that the construction of Arena Guadalajara will not be complete for their scheduled shows next week, which includes mine on May 1 and 2,” she wrote in a message on her Instagram Stories.
Perry added: “I wish I could fix this but it is beyond my control. You guys mean the world to me and we have all been on such a beautiful journey together that I will be thinking about how I can create something special for the fans in Guadalajara in the future.”
The Grammy nominee recently faced backlash for her “out of touch” and “entitled” 11-minute voyage to space on Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard 31 spacecraft.
The trip also included Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, journalist Gayle King, astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
Celebrities including Olivia Munn, Joe Rogan and Amy Schumer have criticized the space flight.
“What are they doing?” Munn, 44, said on “Today With Jenna & Friends” on April 3. “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”
Fast food giant Wendy’s mocked Perry over the stunt, asking if she could be sent back because of the gesture.
The “Part of Me” singer described her short trip to space — during which she sang “What a Wonderful World” — as the second greatest thing she has done.
“This experience is second to being a mom. That’s why it was hard for me to go because that’s all my love right there, and I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me and protect me and also my family and daughter,” she told reporters after returning to Earth.
