There were a metric ton of new announcements coming out of Star Wars Celebration in Japan. But there’s one more Star Wars TV series in the works. One they waited till after the convention to make public, just announced via the folks at Deadline. This new show in development is from the father/son producing team of Carlton Cuse (Lost, Locke & Key) and Nick Cuse (Station Eleven). We know nothing concrete about this series yet, not even where it takes place in the greater Star Wars timeline.
The younger Cuse also worked with his father’s Lost collaborator Damon Lindelof on HBO’s excellent Watchmen series back in 2019. But this will mark the first time they’ve every worked on a series together. Now, just because this series is in development by Lucasfilm doesn’t mean it will ever see the light of day. The list of Star Wars projects formally announced and then never made in the modern Disney era is long. There’s Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s Trilogy, the proposed Rian Johnson trilogy, among several others. Remember the Lando series, and the animated Droids show? What happened to those?
This is just our wild speculation, but is this possibly the rumored Knights of the Old Republic live-action series? Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy mentioned KOTOR was in some form of development quite some time ago, but then nothing ever came of it. Maybe Carlton and Nick Cuse have found a way to revive that project, which is maybe the most wanted Star Wars adaptation by fans. This would certainly be a costly series to produce, as it’s set in a time with thousands of Jedi and Sith alike. Hopefully, we’ll find out what this mystery Star Wars series from Cartlon and Nick Cuse is about before too long.
