Liv And Mia Tyler Met For First Time At Aerosmith Concert

Liv and Mia Tyler may be sisters, but they weren’t aware of their familial connection for much of their early childhoods.

The half-siblings ― who share father Steven Tyler, the frontman of the legendary rock band Aerosmith ― are opening up about the experience of meeting one another for the first time when they accompanied their respective mothers to one of their dad’s concerts.

“I think she was 8, and I was 9,” Liv Tyler, whose mother is Bebe Buell, recalled on Monday’s episode of the “Sibling Revelry” podcast hosted by Kate and Oliver Hudson.

According to Mia Tyler, whose mother is Cyrinda Foxe, others who spotted the two girls were quick to note their similarities. “I remember there were no kids backstage,” she said. “And we were at this VIP area, outside of the green rooms, and we were just like, you know, doing our 8- and 9-year-old thing, and this fan lady came up, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, you girls are so cute. Are you guys sisters?’ … And I was like, ‘Yeah!’ And we pretended we were sisters.”

Liv Tyler echoed those sentiments, noting that seeing her sister at the show was “literally like looking in the mirror, seeing your double.” Afterward, she said, her mom “took me to a bench” and “told me the whole story in the most sincere, beautiful way.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Liv Tyler ― who was raised primarily by her maternal relatives ― recalled how she’d previously been led to believe that her father was another famed musician, Utopia frontman Todd Rundgren. In fact, it was Rundgren who signed Liv Tyler’s birth certificate, since he was dating Buell and Steven Tyler was reportedly seeking treatment for drug addiction at the time.

“It’s probably still very hard and painful, and I don’t speak to him enough. I love him,” she said of Rundgren. “He took care of me as [if] he was Dad. He was always on tour, too, and traveling… He had another partner and two boys. So I would go and visit them and go on trips with them.”

As adults, Liv and Mia Tyler have grown close, with each carving out a niche for themselves in Hollywood. Liv Tyler’s many acting credits include the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, as well as “Armageddon” and “The Leftovers.” Though Mia Tyler first gained recognition as a model, she, too, has branched out into acting, appearing in “Rush Hour 3,” among other films.

The two women are also on good terms with their dad, who retired from touring last year after a vocal injury, and have supported him at public events over the years.

Liv Tyler previously described her unusual family dynamic in a 2017 interview with The Guardian, comparing Steven Tyler and Rundgren to “unicorns or wizards.”

“They are musicians through and through. The way they think is just different,” she told the outlet. “Their eccentricities have made me more practical and more normal, in a way.”

Elsewhere in the Guardian chat, she noted, “Steven and I look so alike and we do things in the same way. It was fun getting to know his side of the family. My sister Mia will just move her hand in a certain way and the mannerism is so like mine, it’s crazy.”
