A Weezer movie is currently in production, as confirmed by frontman Rivers Cuomo onstage at Coachella.
With the rock legends taking to the stage for the festival’s first weekend, it was revealed that they’ve been working on the mysterious project in Los Angeles recently.
Speaking to the crowd, Rivers said:
“We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks… But when Coachella called us up and said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?’ We were like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
Whilst we have little information right now, it’s believed that the movie will be a mash-up of a classic band documentary and an action film, reportedly going by the name Weezer: Security Threat.
Take a look at a public notice that was spotted in downtown LA recently, revealing that filming would include the likes of ‘simulated bullet effects’, ‘special effects’, and ‘atmospheric smoke’:

Weezer will return to the UK this summer when they play the Friday night of Download Festival.
